No. 16 Among World's Top Arenas -- Top 5 in United States and Best Arena of the Year NomineeView All News
Sprint Center was named one of 2009’s top venues in the world by Pollstar magazine. The leading concert trade publication, which hits newsstands this week, ranks Sprint Center at No. 16 among worldwide venues. Sprint Center, Kansas City’s award winning arena, finished at No. 5 among U.S. concert venues -- behind venues in New York City, Dallas, Chicago and Atlanta.
Pollstar utilizes an extensive database to collect box office reports from nearly 100 percent of the world’s top-level artists, promoters and venues during the 2009 calendar year. The result is a series of eagerly anticipated rankings that are included in the magazine’s popular year-end issue.
"Having just celebrated our second anniversary, Sprint Center continues to sustain a remarkable opening run,” said Brenda Tinnen, AEG Kansas City general manager and senior vice president. "We remain humble and grateful to guests, artists, managers and promoters for establishing Sprint Center as the No. 5 venue in the United States.”
According to Pollstar:
• Nine of the top 10 North American concert tours have visited or are scheduled to visit Sprint Center in 2010.
• Sprint Center hosted (2009) or will host (in 2010) 18 of the top 20 North American tours including Elton John and Billy Joel, Britney Spears, AC/DC, Kenny Chesney, Jonas Brothers, Dave Matthews Band and Fleetwood Mac.
• The Eagles concert on March 28, 2009, was the arena’s highest grossing one-event concert to date.
Opened on Oct. 10, 2007, Sprint Center’s continued success garnered its third consecutive nomination as ‘Best Arena of the Year.’ Nominees were selected by a committee of several randomly selected live entertainment executives. Winners will be announced at Pollstar Live! on Feb. 17 at Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in Los Angeles.
