First Visit to Sprint Center Leaves One Millionth Guest Speechless

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (May 13, 2008) - Cecelia Walsh of Olathe, Kan. was shocked during her first visit to Sprint Center. Upon entering the Grand Lobby, sirens sounded, confetti sprayed the air and applause erupted throughout the concourses from the Grand Lobby. Cecelia, accompanied by her husband, Anthony, was the one millionth guest to enter Sprint Center prior to today's concert by The Police with special guests Elvis Costello and The Imposters.

Brenda Tinnen, AEG Kansas City's Senior Vice President and General Manager, presented Cecelia with a prize package courtesy of Sprint Center and the arena's founding partners including Sprint, QuikTrip and Toyota comprised of:

  • Two tickets to all Sprint Center events through Dec. 31, 2008
  • Samsung Instinct Mobile device courtesy of Sprint including six months of service
  • Three days, two nights at Hyatt Regency Crown Center Hotel including Dinner for two at the Peppercorn Duck Club and Breakfast at The Terrace
  • $500 QuikTrip Gift Card (includes gas and merchandise)
  • Toyota Prize Package
  • Sprint Center Concert Memorabilia Sampling
  • Commemorative Photo, Ticket and Photo Collage.

More than 21,000 guests visited Sprint Center during its ribbon cutting ceremony and open house on Oct. 10, 2007. Elton John's grand opening concert on Oct. 13, 2007, was the first of several sold out performances during Sprint Center's inaugural year.

Kansas City has welcomed a variety of diverse acts to date including Rascal Flatts, Van Halen, Billy Joel, Chris Brown, Reba McEntire, Kelly Clarkson, Kid Rock, two sold out Bon Jovi shows and nine record breaking sold out shows by Garth Brooks - including a live broadcast into more than 300 movie theaters around the world.

Home to the College Basketball Experience, Sprint Center hosted the 2008 Big 12 Men's Basketball Championships and will see first- and second- round action of the 2009 NCAA Men's Basketball Championships and 2010 NCAA Women's Basketball Regional.

Sprint Center projected to host 90 events and welcome nearly one million guests in its inaugural year (Oct. '07.-July '08). Those projections will be exceeded, as 97 events have occurred at Sprint Center to date.
